| Shooting We will put together a schedule which details all the shooting times, places and shots required and any creative elements that the script dictates. It is the responsibility of the commissioner to arrange any necessary people or resources from his/her company that the producer requires. Shooting can cause inconvenience with movement of equipment, crew members and a need to rearrange items “on set”. During filming, quiet will be needed if recording a soundtrack. Shooting takes only a short part of the total time during the programme making process but may take longer if special weather conditions, rare events or a lot of locations are required. Rushes If desired, the clips may be previewed on VHS with the timecode information (for frame accuracy) displayed on the pictures. This footage will be “warts and all” and is to help in deciding which "takes" are best and to check if there are any mistakes to be rectified or a need to re-shoot. Editing or post production Editing is likely to be more time consuming and involved than you envisage. Some of the things to aware of are listed here. A two-way dialogue will be essential during this process. The edit goes through a multi-stage process undertaken after all shots have been digitised onto our computer. A preliminary edit gives you the chance to see how the programme is running, if there are areas to be cut or added, the running order changed slightly to give better emphasis to certain sections etc. The preliminary edit may have to be altered several times until all are happy with the results. This can be produced as VHS preview copies and sent to you but it is often more beneficial for you to attend an edit session or sessions and make recommendations on the spot. The final stage in the editing process is where the programme is produced to the highest quality. All the special effects are rendered, and graphics added at this stage. The sound being used in the programme is prepared, mixed and "normalised" (levels set through the duration of the video). Any sound effects and music are also added, which is another computer based precedure. A final copy is the prepared for you from the digital master. Changes after this stage can be costly. | ||
